John R. "Rusty" Helms, C.P.A.

President

While accounting, tax preparation, and financial reporting may seem cut and dried, Rusty Helms knows there is more to getting the numbers right than most people realize.  His experience has taught him the importance of seeing the big picture, never missing filing deadlines, and anticipating the domino effect of decisions.  As Corporate Controller for Indianapolis-based Peterson Enterprises Rusty managed the financial and administrative operations of the organization’s subsidiary companies.  His responsibilities included preparation and filing of business, payroll and personal tax returns, budgeting and administration of employee benefits plans, income tax and estate planning, negotiation and management of real estate and equipment leases, and analysis and selection of computer hardware and software systems.  Prior to joining Peterson Enterprises Rusty served as a Senior Accountant for Bagley, Hoage & Harrison, P.C., a respected Indianapolis CPA firm.  At Bagley, Hoage & Harrison Rusty honed his accounting skills, gaining extensive experience in audits, reviews, compilations and complex income tax preparation and client write-ups.

As President of J. R. Helms & Associates, Rusty utilizes his broad background in corporate and individual accounting to provide a wide range of accounting and consulting services.  The hallmark of his practice is a commitment to accuracy and integrity, combined with a warm personal interest in helping his clients achieve their hopes and dreams.  It’s an approach that keeps clients returning year after year.

Rusty holds a B.S. degree in Accounting from Ball State University.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Indiana CPA Society, and the American Research Association of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  In his free time Rusty is the dedicated Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 69 and has served 7 years as a baseball coach for the Pike Youth League.  He is the proud recipient of a Boy Scout Leader Training award and was named Arrowman of the Year by the LOA Chapter of Lodge 21 of the Boy Scouts of America.
